Today, Agriculture Must Get in the Video Business… We Are! March 25, 2013

By Julie Murphree, Arizona Farm Bureau

It’s getting very exciting! I’m in the thick of working with a great team of farmers and video professionals to produce 10 new specialty crop videos focused on Arizona’s fruits and vegetables market. This month we captured lots of information for our Arizona families on why they should be eating more fruits and vegetables. We’ll be telling the story by creating a character called “Veggie Man!”

Going through this process makes me think that we’ve all got to be in the video production and distribution business. Thank goodness for YouTube and other video distribution channels. We keep talking about how important it is to tell agriculture’s story. But storytelling for today has reached a whole new level through video production. This makes telling our story that much more valuable.

And, agriculture is capturing the real-life, day-to-day of farm and ranch life and uploading it on YouTube. We’ve even garnered a degree of celebrity thanks to viral agriculture videos. But we’ve still got lots of work to do. The more in the act of sharing story via video, the more we can really aggregate the true agriculture story. Not one crafted by Hollywood that maligns the story line with bad sterotypes.

Arizona Farm Bureau’s Fill Your Plate already has a cashe of videos. Once these next 10 are uploaded we’ll have more to celebrate and use to teach. What about you? What video ag story do you need to tell?
